Technology licensing

All the technologies used in PhotoAcute applications are available for licensing as the binary-form SDKs and as the source code as well.
With the technologies licensed from us, you will be able to use the following functionality in your software:
  • Spatial resolution increase
  • Image registration with sub-pixel precision and compensation for geometry distortions.
  • Dynamic range expansion by staking differently exposed images
  • Depth of field expansion by stacking the differently focused images
  • Removing unneeded moving objects from a set of images
  • Fixing oversharpening artefacts after any image processing
  • Automatic correction of chromatic aberrations
  • Correction of image geometry distortions

    We propose very flexible licensing terms suitable for wide range of applications - from custom in-house software to worldwide marketed products.

    Super-resolution

    Super-resolution is the method of enhancing the resolution of an image or of an optical system.
    This can be done by either acquiring more graphic information (e.g. taking and merging several images of the same object) or by reconstructing the details lost due to the faultiness of the optical system (applying knowledge of the optical system's properties).
    PhotoAcute Studio uses both ways to achieve the maximum image quality.

    PhotoAcute super-resolution technology supports automatic algorithms tuning to particular camera and optics. This allows camera manufacturers/distributors to provide high-quality image processing software with their cameras. This also allow to achieve great image improvement for custom optical systems.

    Unlike other existing superresolution methods, our method is non-iterative. This allows processing of even 20-30 megapixel images on the usual desktop computer with the acceptable speed. Other methods will require enormous amount of memory and hours of time for calculations. In the same time, our method provides best resolution increase in comparison to the other methods (the results of comparison tests are to be published soon).

    Super-resolution module of PhotoAcute SDK, available for licensing, contains super-resolution processing functions and a number of camera/lens profiles for super-resolution processing. Custom profiles creation is also an option.

    Small-footprint adaptation of super-resolution technology

    The small-footprint adaptation of our technology, used in PhotoAcute Mobile application, combines high quality results with low CPU and memory usage, allowing to use it in resource-limited devices.
    Unique algorithms developed by our team solve the problem commonly known as a "superresolution problem" within the tight resource requirements of mobile device where CPU and memory resources are severely limited. Normally this requires hours of CPU time on modern computers.

    Image registration

    PhotoAcute uses precise image registration algorithms, capable of:
  • registering the images with sub-pixel precision;
  • registering with the compensation for non-linear geometry distortions, both regular (lens distortions) and irregular (atmospheric disturbances);
  • registering images containing moving objects, taken at different focus points and/or with different exposures;
  • use the information about sensor structure for better registration of RAW images.

    You will be able to add that functionality to your applications by using PhotoAcute Elastic Image Aligner module

    Image stacking

    Image Stacking module of PhotoAcute SDK, available for licensing, provides the following functionality:
  • Dynamic range expansion,
  • Depth of field expansion,
  • Moving objects handling - removing completely or leaving only those being present in a selected image.

    PhotoAcute Image Stacking module provides "Noise-free HDR" - a technique of dynamic range expansion, which allows to reduce the noise in HDR images, especially in shadows. The same functionality can be used in normal (non-HDR) photography to eliminate the noise even from the deep shadows of the images by blending normally exposed and overexposed photos of the same object.

    Chromatic Aberrations correction

    Every lens, to a greater or lesser extent, focuses the light of different wavelengths onto different focal planes and magnifies it differently. This causes, correspondingly, so-called "Longitudinal Chromatic Aberrations" and "Lateral Chromatic Aberrations". Chromatic aberrations are visible as the fringes of color at the contrast edges.

    Chromatic Aberrations Correction module, available for licensing, provides functions which automatically correct aberrations, minimizing the circle of confusion. It is the only available technology for automatic CA correction.

    Geometry Correction

    Geometry Correction module is capable of correction of nearly-arbitrary geometric distortions produced by optical imaging system, including asymmetrical distortions. Behind this module is the core of our Image Stacking technology.
